Flowers in the Field: How to Find, Identify and Enjoy Wild Flowers

Flowers in the Field How to Find Identify and Enjoy Wild Flowers
Flowers in the Field: How to Find, Identify and Enjoy Wild Flowers
Review "It answers a lot of questions I have been asked by people who want to start finding out about plants. Here at last is a book that makes botany interesting and fun." -- Liz Lavery, Vice-County Recorder for West Perthshire'This is an unassuming but enjoyable book. It would make a great present for an aspiring botanist, not least as buying a field-guide is too personal a choice to be made by someone else, but this book by contrast will not fail to please.

If you already have a smattering of botanical interest, and want to go a bit further, you will find this an invaluable and friendly way to move towards a deeper understanding of the study of wild plants - not to mention an entertaining primer in the jargon, practices and foibles of field botanists.

Recommended.' --Naturenet - The Ranger's Blog'...a useful addition to any would be botanist's book collection...I think it fills a glaring gap in the types of botany and wild flower books that have previously been available, and aims to guide the beginner/novice botanist through the maze of how to go about identifying the plants that might be found.

..this, along with a suitable field guide, should provide much of what is needed to get a firm foothold on the botanical path.' --'Lancashire Lad' on Wild About Britain website From the Publisher There are a number of fieldguides to the wild flowers of Britain but there does not appear to be any other book like this one for people who wish to know more about the subject of field botany.

As the subtitle says, this book explains how to find, identify and enjoy wild flowers. It is the essential companion to a good fieldguide. See all

This takes the general reader at an easy pace from the basic characteristics of wild flowers through various techniques for identifying them.

It also explains why plants have different habits and grow in different places.

Consumer review about Flowers in the Field: How to Find, Identify and Enjoy Wild Flowers :

This book was recommended and I have to admit at first I was a little disappointed, but having read it for a second time I am very impressed. It would be of interest to people like myself who paint flowers. Background information gives more insight into flowers than actually looking at them.(Read more)
