Permaculture in Pots: How to Grow Food in Small Urban Spaces
Review This is the book that I wish had been in print when I left the parental abode for the first time. It provides fantastic advice for anyone currently engaged with the transient lifestyle often endured by those in rented properties.

I have already bought a copy for a friend who had just moved to a flat with a balcony. --Nicola Bell, Permaculture WorksThere are recipes, photos and anecdotes from Kemp's experience growing food on her small balcony in London; Kemp is warm and self-effacing.

Each month has its own herb, with growing tips and culinary and medicinal uses for each. Kemp's advice is resourceful and practical, and she always suggests free, or at least the cheapest, options for everything she introduces: including making your own very simple self-watering containers, labelling plants, enhancing your compost, and building a cold frame.

--Emily Ingham, Permaculture magazineI think the best thing about this book is that, even though it is so completely enabling for anyone living in a city, it doesn't stop there.

The skills you learn planning your balcony, choosing plants and intercepting flows of water and materials are exactly the same ones needed to plan a much larger garden if ever you expand your horizons to a larger space.

But if you're happy where you are, this book will help you to make the best of the space you have, the resources around you, and to find fulfillment and joy wherever you call home.

--Burra Maluca, Permies.com About the Author Juliet Kemp lives in London with her partner, dog, and baby son. Permaculture in Pots was written from experiences gleaned from gardening her Southwark flat balcony. When not writing (fiction or non-fiction) or pottering about her plant-growing spaces, Juliet enjoys cycling, climbing, knitting, and making/upcycling all sorts of things.

After several years of learning about and using permaculture, Juliet completed the Permaculture Design Course at the Earth Activist Training 2011 course, which she found incredibly inspiring.

In these times of soaring food prices, growing food in cities is becoming the big urban trend. As demand far outstrips supply for allotments, Permaculture in Pots gives power and opportunity back to those of us with little space.

This clear and easy to use month by month guide shows you how to grow food on a balcony or in a container garden, using low impact permaculture principles.

Wherever you are, however much space you have, this book will help you to make significant steps towards a more creative, self reliant lifestyle.

Consumer review about Permaculture in Pots: How to Grow Food in Small Urban Spaces :

Nice little book, but not really permaculture as can't really create an eco system with pots.. just a nice container gardening book with lots of tasks to do throughout the year.. bit too much 'my diary'...(Read more)
